Meet Paudie Murphy

Paudie MurphyManaging Director

Padraig Murphy, commonly known throughout the cabling industry as “Paudie” is the Managing Director of IPS Power Ltd.

Paudie is responsible for the overall strategy and Management of IPS Power and has been instrumental in the company’s growth since its inception in 2009.

His wealth of High Voltage cable installation experience was gained from hands on experience during his mid-teens to latterly major cable installation in London Tunnels.

It is not unusual for Paudie to attend sites where major cable installations are involved to support his site teams.

Paudie says “Team Membership” is the key to our success. We are about to publish our first newsletter “Pulling Together; our ethos is we pull cable together, and more importantly we pull together as a team

Paudie personally ensures that we undertake our work with fully trained and competent workforce ensuring that we maintain the company’s highest standard of Safety and Quality.

His goal is to continue with the recent success and growth of IPS Power and to be at the forefront of HV Cabling in the UK.

Meet The Team

Tyson Lewis
Tyson LewisOperations Manager

Tyson Lewis is an experienced senior manager encompassing 15 years of mechanical, construction and HV electrical engineering. Tyson joined IPS Power in early 2016 from Prysmian cables, where during this period he has carried out wide range of jointing and cabling contracts on EHV cable systems.

Tyson is currently the operations manager for IPS Power Ltd controlling civil and HV installations on UK distribution and transmission networks. Identifying and investigating new business streams, Tyson reports closely with our managing director Paudie Murphy. Tyson ensures that our organisation is running efficiently ensuring that our clients and stakeholders’ expectations are met. Additionally, he has the responsibility to liaise with project and site management teams to report to clients with ultimate control from pretender stage through to testing and commissioning.

Tyson is predominantly site based taking a hands-on approach to the improvement and development of IPS Power promoting high standards of safety and quality.

Laura Mulligan
Laura MulliganOffice Manager

Laura Mulligan is the IPS Power Office Manager based in our Head Office in Kingsbridge Devon.

Laura has worked for IPS Power since early 2012 as an administrator and has progressed to her current role by demonstrating excellent administrative skills and knowledge to ensure the efficient and effective running of the IPS Power Office.

Laura has excellent interpersonal and communication skills and can address all administrative issues from our suppliers and clients. Additionally, she keeps track of project tasks, timelines, budgets and resources.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director Laura has additional responsibilities with ensuring our staff are trained and fully competent to perform the specialised activities in the Power sector.

Andy Simler
Andy Simler Senior Project Manager

Andy Simler has worked in the High Voltage cabling Industry for 45 years following the successful completion of an apprenticeship in Telecommunications.

Andy had a career with Balfour Beatty of over forty years which was focussed entirely in High Voltage cable installation throughout the UK. He is a qualified oil filled cable engineer and worked closely with the cable manufacturer (BICC) on major projects for National Grid and the Scottish Electricity Boards.

In the 1990’s Andy became the Head of Department for Cable System Engineering involving Training for Engineers Oil Mechanics and cable jointers and was responsible for the development of new cable oil processors which were developed and sold to clients in South Africa. Latterly he became the Senior Authorising Engineer for the cabling sector and was responsible for the Development of Installation Manuals.

Following a 2 year period with Morgan Sindall as Special Works Operations Manager Andy joined IPS Power as Senior Project Manager in 2017.

His role is to bring his wealth of knowledge to IPS Power and to ensure we maintain our high installation standards and provide competitive innovative solutions to our work packages.

Kevin Lewis
Kevin Lewis Senior Project Manager

Kevin is currently a Senior Project Manager Employed by IPS Power.

Kevin’s career in the power industry commenced 36 years ago working as a Linesman’s mate for the South Western Electricity Board (SWEB). Over the years Kevin’s ability allowed him to progress to a Senior Authorised Person with SWEB maintaining and re replacing their 11/33kV network.

New challenges with power contracting provided Kevin with employment from “blue chip” companies such as Balfour Beatty, McAlpine, and Enterprise in the Central Networks area.

Kevin has a vast knowledge of the new connections business with Scottish and Southern Energy and Western Power Distribution, including Solar Power and Wind Farm cable installation.

As Senior Project Manager Kevin is a valued member of our engineering team and carries out many duties, including site activities, supported from his previous experience in the power industry.

Andrew Bracey
Andrew BraceySafety, Health & Environment, Quality Manager

Andrew Bracey is the IPS Power Safety, Health & Environment, Quality Manager.

Andrew joined IPS Power in June 2019 after finishing his 23-year career as a senior manager in the Royal Engineers.

Andrew is an experienced and qualified Senior Manager with over 23 years of mechanical and construction engineering experience. Having a keen eye for detail, whether on site’s or looking through documentation has seen Andrew plan, resource design and safely deliver high risk activities both at home and abroad, ranging from small teams up to 120 personnel on multi-million-pound specialist engineering vehicles.

Andrew can plan, deliver and record site audits, Inspections and provide Health & Safety advice to project manager’s on site, whilst ensuring correct adherence to current legislative procedures and publications.

Health & Safety

At IPS Power Ltd we take Health and Safety very seriously. We understand the importance of the Health and Safety at work act 1974, and our obligations to our employees, clients, visitors, contractors and the general public who may be affected by our activities.

It is the aim our Managing Director to ensure that:

  1. The working environment of all employees is safe and without risks to health and that adequate provisions are made regarding the facilities and arrangements for first aid and welfare at work.
  2. Ensure that adequate resources both financial and physical are made available to ensure the successful implementation of our policy.
  3. The provision and maintenance of plant and systems of work that are safe and without risks to health.

  7. Adequate information is available with respect to articles and substances for use at work, dealing with the conditions and precautions necessary to ensure that, when properly used, they present no risks to health, safety or the environment.
  8. There is suitable provision for the safe access and egress to and from all working areas.
  9. We will make use of renewable natural resources through efficient and careful planning. We will maximise protection to the wildlife habitat.
  10. Reduction and disposal of waste. We will minimise the creation of waste, especially hazardous waste and wherever possible recycle materials.  We will dispose of all wastes through safe and responsible methods.
